Festival overcomes fear and apathy
This year, Queerfest, an annual celebration of the LGBT community in St. Petersburg that begins on Thursday, Sept. 19, is dedicated to the 20th anniversary of the decriminalization of male homosexuality in Russia. It is, however, being held at a time when respect for LGBT rights is at its lowest point since 1993, when Russian President Boris Yeltsin signed the law on April 29.
